ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
How service prototypes can be developed and used still raises many questions. Furthermore, prototyping is often used in evaluation only, but not as an exploration tool.
What criteria must a service prototype meet and how can these be developed as quickly and cost-effectively as possible? Maurício Manhães, Service Design Professor and Associate Design Researcher, also asked this question himself. He developed a new and workable method that uses language as the main component of service prototypes.
This method is based on the findings of the German philosopher and sociologist Jürgen Habermas and works as an application in any language (concerns about the workshop language English are therefore not necessary). It provides a new perspective on data analysis, combines qualitative and quantitative research and places the data in a social context.
The method is very practical and increases the quality of the data analysis results enormously. In addition to being used in research, reading and interpreting data for a concrete social context, this approach can also be applied in all other phases of the service design process, e.g. in idea review and testing.
The theory will be practically applied in the workshop. There will be exercises, furthermore we can work on our own projects.
You want to integrate one of your projects? Great!
Please indicate that when registering so that we can discuss and prepare the project with you in advance.

Besides teaching and researching about Service Design, he often works on projects and conducts workshops, courses, and lectures on service innovation in several countries.

ABOUT THE LOCATION
Pics / Copyright: Alpengasthof Bad Rothenbrunnen / Pixabay
We didn't just want a „nice venue", we were looking for a really special place – and finally, we found it! The „Alpengasthof Bad Rothenbrunnen" is a wonderful jewel in the middle of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Vorarlberg, Austria. A place of refuge for the 24/7-online-people, for those with overbooked agendas and a fast-paced life. Bad Rothenbrunnen is surrounded by beautiful nature, nothing but nature and only the guests set the rhythm. There are no cars and no mobile phone reception, but the new seminar room offers all the technology needed including WIFI.
The history of Bad Rothenbrunnen goes back to 1460. Even then, the healing water of the spring, which rises 500 m above the house, was used by doctors for drinking and bathing cures. The „Alpengasthof Bad Rothenbrunnen" is under a preservation order and has been restored with great attention to detail. The Bitsche family takes loving care of their guests.
This sounds to good to be true? Well, actually there is one little thing, we want you to know: there are no rooms with private bathroom, only bathrooms to share. We checked how many there are as we wanted to make sure you won’t have to get up in the middle of the night so that everybody could get a shower before breakfast. And guess what: there are plenty. You still don’t like the idea? Well.
Think of the nature, the peace and the good price for the room and remember:
We are up in the mountains. We Austrians use to say: Some things are different
up there. These things include the fact, that the sight improves with every step (mountain rule #1), that 1000 meters above sea level and further up everybody is called only by the first name right away (mountain rule #2), that when preparing to climb a mountain you should pack a light heart (mountain rule #3) and last but not least the tacit consent that there are enough washing facilities (mountain rule #4).
So bring along your silken kimono / unicorn onesie / grandpa’s bathrobe and we will be fine.

ABOUT THE HOST
We – that's us, Isabelle Goller, Isabella Natter-Spets, Flo Oberforcher, Gregor Kreuzer and Nicole Berti. We want to prove that Service Design has unexpected solutions for complex questions and problems. Therefore, we advise and accompany organisations and companies on innovation issues, give the opportunity to take the self-test and organise service design events and workshops for this purpose.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SERVICE DESIGN MASTERCLASS
A lot has happened in the last few years in the field of service design education. There are many providers for all kinds of workshops and boot camps. However, the offer concentrates on "basics" and newcomers. But when it comes to trainings for service design professionals, it gets thin.
It's a pity, because we from Service Design Vorarlberg want to continue to learn, to deal intensively with effective service design methods, tools and their application. If we draw an ideal picture of such a "Service Design Masterclass", beside the training, we would also like to network with other service design experts and exchange ideas about our projects .
"How can we take matters into our own hands?", we asked ourselves and came up with the following idea: Why not simply bring the experts we think we can learn from to Vorarlberg and invite our service design colleagues to join us?
Said, done – we proudly present our first Service Design Masterclass with Maurício Manhães!
